Head
Vet & Owner: John Wright B.V.Sc
|
|
John
was raised on a cattle property near Tamworth and has always had an interest in
animals. He graduated from Sydney University in 1980 as a Pharmacist, and worked
full time for 8 years. The calling for working with animals was too strong to
resist, he left full time Pharmacy, and worked on his father’s cattle property
for 3 years. Realising his purpose
in life, John started the 5 year full time degree of Veterinary Science at the
University of Queensland, at the age of 32. During his studies, he and his wife,
Sue, had 2 daughters (Courtney born in 2nd
year Uni, and Alicia born in 4th
year Uni). After
graduation, John realised that small animals were his calling. He started
working at Salisbury Vet Surgery, and at its Branch practice in Inala – Skylark
Street Vet. During this time, another daughter – Aimee was born. After 3 & ½
years, John’s boss retired, so he purchased the two practices. Concentrating his
efforts into the Salisbury practice, Skylark Street Vet was
sold. Over
the last 10 years, John knows that ongoing education is vital for a successful
practice. He has attended 4 weeklong conferences (Dermatology in 1998, Senior
Care in 2003, Surgery in 2007 and Feline Medicine & Surgery in 2009). He has
also completed 3 year long correspondence courses (Feline Medicine in 2000,
Surgery in 2001 and Radiology in 2005). John’s
interests lie in good medicine and surgery. He performs routine surgery as well
as many orthopaedic (traumatic and correctional) cases. When
not at work, he is a home Handyman (typical male), rides his bike, and
participates in the cycling charity events (Gold Coast 100k, Ipswich 100k and
recently the Mt Coot-Tha - Clem 7 tunnel 85k event). He has two cats (Ally and
Soxie), 2 guinea pigs (Bender and Cookie), one Wife (Sue), and 3 teenage
daughters. |

My
name is TeeJay. I have been part of the Salisbury Vet team for 11 years
now. The care and respect that John
shows as a boss and especially as a Vet has made me not ever want to leave. Having
previously worked at the Animal Welfare League for 3 years it’s clear to me that
my passion lies in the care and wellbeing of all animals great and
small. I’m
a proud Vegan and do my best at helping animals in my own way. You may even see
me at a Rally or two. My
hobbies are vast and include music, movies, bushwalking, art, anything nature
bound and cats …. I love my cats. |
